And the type says...

Well by just looking at the type face you can tell what mood the writer wants you to be in if he wants you to be happy he/she might use a bubbly type like Bazooka to portray a lively funny fun atmosphere, but then again he can make it serious just by making it thin and adding serifs to it. Type is the universal way to produce emotion but no real picture minus the shape of the type face. I know when I see something like times or Helvetica I think formal or business like but when I see Rockwell, or Bazooka I think fun and lively. That's what type can do to people if your trained or not it can make you feel something that's why people use different types for there signs/business cards they want the consumer (us) to get what here selling just by the words that are used and the type face that is used also. That about all I have to say about the gist of what type can tell us.

What is type?

Well at first I though it was just letters on a page to make words I never thought it was what it is at all. I mean I kind of knew about the progression of type to where it is now but I never knew them all and I never could tell a difference between a lot of them and the face that people though it was a fad to create type is quite amusing to say the least but what I have learned about type and how it's made is amazing to say the least from hand writing the calligraphy to carving out the blocks of wood for each letter to then making it out of metal is so interesting I mean to understand the history of type would take years but I do have a much better understanding of it as a whole. It is also interesting to here how different countries created type and how different each was from region to region. It s also quite comical how the times have changed and what we wanted from type has changed with it a lot have changed over the times but type had the biggest jumps in achieving where it is today.

Type is here, type is there, type is...

Everywhere around us we see type weather it is good type or bad type we see it and appreciate it to a degree. Now the other day after reading the book I was looking at a newspaper we always get at my house and that I have read in the past. Just to see what the book was talking about with the whole we like the pictures and the titles to the articles to see what was up and why my family and myself liked that newspaper. It was because of those things that we liked the paper the pictures were not all that peculated and the type was readable for the most part I mean I never really looked at the paper before then and saw all the typography in it between the ads and the articles everything looked different I could point out that the kerning between the letters wasn't enough and that most of the letters had ligatures connecting them. But for the most part I didn't see any widows or orphans in the paper well maybe a few but not everyone is a typographer.

next is the signs like the road signs and there I totally agree with the book they suck there was no graphic designer or typographer there to tell them what looks good they decided to make it up on their own and they suck big time I mean come on a child could have done better than that with their eyes closed I mean there wasn't any regard to anything in the design principles at all and I bet that's why people hate road sings because there not appealing to any sense at all.
